- Who is eligible for these possible IA scholarships?
Students must be pursuing degree programs at UMBC at the B.S., M.P.S., M.S., or Ph.D. level. Undergraduates must have attained junior status or higher. Read the instructions for other important requirements (e.g. USA citizenship, ability to obtain the minimum security clearance required by the scholarship, and a U.S. Government service agreement).
- What are the scholarship benefits?
In addition to the full-ride scholarship, students will also be given immediate appointments under the Student Career Experience Program as federal civilian Information Assurance Scholars (part-time interns) in a variety of defense agencies and locations nationwide. During breaks in your academic studies, you will receive progressive, hands-on experience via full-time information security related internships.

You must apply for an existing degree program in Computer Science (CMSC), Electrical Engineering (ENEE), Computer Engineering (CMPE), Information Systems (IS), Mathematics (MATH), Physics (PHYS), or Public Policy (PUBL) at the B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. level.

There is a separate Masters in Professional Studies degree program in Cybersecurity offered by the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.Students pursuing an undergraduate or research graduate degree can take IA courses as part of an existing degree program in CMSC, ENEE, CMPE, or IS.
- Is there a formal certificate program in IA?
The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering offers a Graduate Certificate in Professional StudiesCybersecurity Strategy and Policy.Students enrolled in degree programs at the B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. level whose degree programs include four approved CISA courses can receive a letter of recognition from the Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology certifying that they have completed the requirements of a track of study in Information Assurance at UMBC.
